The Journey to Creating Saujette
In high school I spent time in Rosario, Argentina, and it was there that I first recognized the power of style. I hadn't seen people dress like that before — not in Westchester. It was more feminine, more sexy, more loud. The jewelry, the eye makeup, the mascara. People were having fun. Someone was always smoking a cigarette. There was a joy to it, an ease, a confidence that had nothing to do with following rules. It opened my eyes to a whole new way of seeing clothing — and people. I came home to New York with something I hadn't had before: an instinctive understanding that clothing can transform how you feel. Your attitude, your confidence, your presence.
I landed at the Saks Fifth Avenue Buying Program after graduating from Tufts University, and worked my way up to become a buyer. Learning and living inside this exciting world of fashion was a dream. The product was the jewel, but there was so much behind it. The Open-To-Buys, the sell-throughs, the vendor agreements, the mark-ups, the RTVs. The way stores came to life, from the floor to the windows. The big personalities, the hierarchy, the nuance. I loved all of it.
But in a large store, you are building for many and there was an art to that. Buying differently for each door was actually one of the most exciting parts. What a woman in Las Vegas wanted was often very different from what a woman in Boston wanted. I loved that nuance. But it was never fully personal and some special pieces simply couldn't find a home-- too unique, too specific, too something — and they were left behind. I began to take notice of that.
Then, my husband's fragrance business had an exciting opportunity to take on a potentially huge brand, and I jumped in too— leaving Saks for this new entrepreneurial chapter. Being a vendor completely opened up my perspective. Suddenly I was on the other side, and it deepened my appreciation for everything that side entails. Warehousing, importing, working with clients like Neiman Marcus, training product specialists. Things were moving fast. Keeping up with the demand, the logistics, the relationships — it was a whole new world, and it was exciting.
Eventually though I stepped away to do the most important work of all: raising our family. Three boys. Nothing has ever mattered more to me than being their mother.
It was also a time when I was deeply grateful to be present for my own mother, my most beloved person, outside of my husband and children. She was there for everything, for the chaos and the joy, for school pickups and Sunday dinners. The grief of losing her was unlike anything I had ever known, the kind that doesn't leave, that you simply learn to carry.
But time moved forward, as it does. Our boys were growing up. And somewhere in that space between loss and living, I realized something: I didn't want to wait anymore. I wanted to build something of my own-- not someday, but now.
That is how Saujette was born.
Saujette is what happens when decades of expertise meets something you simply can't not do. A career spent inside the most rarefied corners of fashion — and then, finally, a place that's entirely my own.
Saujette is a curated world of chic femininity, where every piece is carefully selected and thought through. When would she wear this? How would she feel? I take pride in choosing pieces a woman might overlook at first — things she might walk past — until she sees them in a new light and realizes they are absolutely fabulous. That moment of discovery is everything.
Why this one?
Every piece at Saujette must answer that question.
The moment I love most is when a woman walks in, takes her jacket off, smiles, has a coffee, discovers a new brand, and simply feels good. She feels beautiful. She feels like herself.
That is Saujette.
Saujette is a feeling that is hard to describe until you walk in. The energy, the warmth, the way it all comes together. There is truly nothing quite like it.
Merci for being part of this world.
